Waterworks Visual Arts Center Presents, "Never Before Seen…Modern Masterpieces"

Discover an extraordinary collection of modern and contemporary art, featuring 40 masterpieces from the private collection of the late New York philanthropists, Julian and Josie Robertson at the "Never Before Seen...Modern Masterpieces" exhibit at Waterworks Visual Arts Center. This exclusive yearlong exhibition, running from September 17, 2024, to August 30, 2025, offers a rare glimpse into the works of some of the most influential European artists of the past century.

About the Exhibition

Dates: September 17, 2024 – August 30, 2025
Location: Waterworks Visual Arts Center, Salisbury, N.C.
Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The exhibition will showcase iconic works by 28 leading European modernists, including renowned artists such as Kandinsky, Monet, Picasso, and de Kooning. Spanning over a century of art history, this collection introduces visitors to pivotal movements, from French Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism.

This event celebrates the Robertsons’ legacy of art and philanthropy, especially their deep ties to Salisbury, where Julian Robertson was born and raised.

Important Notes:

  • Due to the delicate nature of the artworks, no photography is allowed in the galleries.
  • The galleries will be closed from September 5 through September 16, 2024, to prepare for the exhibition.

 

About the Robertsons

Julian and Josie Robertson began collecting art in the 1980s, building a world-class collection while supporting numerous philanthropic causes. Though their impact was global, their connection to Salisbury remained strong. This exhibition honors their commitment to the arts and their dedication to their hometown.

The Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation, established in 1997, has donated millions to local causes, supporting over 150 agencies and organizations in Rowan County.
