Tourism & Destination Development
Rowan County Tourism is committed to making sound and strategic investments that strengthen Rowan County as a visitor destination, attract tourists, support business travel, foster economic growth and improve the destination’s appeal to travelers. In compliance with NC Session Law 2017-202, the Rowan County Tourism Board of Directors may invest up to one-third of local occupancy tax revenues into tourism related capital expenditures and destination development projects. Destination development projects will focus on improving the visitor experience and attracting more travelers, but they may also provide benefits to the entire community that both visitors and residents can enjoy.
Each tourism and destination development initiative—whether enhancing wayfinding, revitalizing and expanding tourism assets, or creating welcoming gateways—is carefully reviewed and approved by the Rowan County Tourism Board of Directors to ensure it aligns with the organization’s mission of growing Rowan County’s visitor economy.

In February 2025, Rowan County Tourism broke ground on the development of the alleyway that connects the Farmers Market Pavilion to the Railwalk District in Downtown Salisbury.
Rowan County Tourism has undertaken strategic efforts to improve visitor experience, strengthen brand identity, and enhance booking convenience.
